Giant Campus program meant to develop tomorrow’s leaders and creators
SEATTLE – December 16, 2008 - Giant Campus, the nationally recognized leader in innovative technology education programs for youth, today announced that it will now offer Project CEO camp, one of several immersive youth summer camp experiences available from Giant Campus. The program is one of the only CEO youth camps in the world geared toward teaching teens how to take a business from idea to implementation by utilizing the latest technology. The young CEOs go to the same lengths a real-world CEO would take to launch a company from doing market research to developing funding sources to coming up with sales and marketing plans and much more.
“The Project CEO camp is a unique opportunity for today’s youth to literally feel what it is like to walk in the shoes of a CEO like myself,” said Giant Campus Founder and CEO Pete Findley. “History has shown us that young people can dream up life-changing products and grow those inventions into major businesses. For example, Braille was invented by 15-year-old Louis Braille; at age 17 Chester Greenwood invented earmuffs creating the largest earmuff manufacturer in the world, and 16-year-old George Nissin developed the trampoline and grew that business into a worldwide phenomenon. That creativity and entrepreneurship is exactly what we’re trying to unleash and foster with our CEO Camps.”
At Project CEO, participants start with their own business idea and work with a team of peers and instructors on refining the idea while creating support materials with cutting-edge technologies. At closing ceremonies, camp attendees present their business where guests have a chance to invest in the company using Giant Campus bucks. Teens go home with business materials such as a company logo, business cards, a Web site and a presentation to share. 13 to 17 year olds can participate in the Project CEO camp.
“Let’s say a participant wants to launch a mobile phone application company. We help that person come up with a plan that includes everything a real-world CEO thinks through like product development, finding investment channels, determining appropriate resources to build the business, and on and on,” said Mary Margaret Callahan, who oversees all summer programs for Giant Campus. “These camps reinforce Giant Campus’ dedication to building self-esteem, and leadership and technology skills. It doesn’t hurt that at the end of a program, students not only have tangible takeaways, but also lifelong friends and experiences.”
Other immersive summer youth camps from Giant Campus include: • Project Director Camp (ages 13 to 17) – The next generation of filmmakers immerse themselves in planning, writing, shooting and editing video short subjects. • Project Gamer Camp (ages 13 to 17) – Campers trade mods, share 3D models, collaborate with other serious gamers and work with a staff that specializes in gaming. Further summer computer and technology camps include: • Computer Camp (ages 6 to 10) – Kids learn essential computer skills while working on fun daily projects like building an arcade-style game and altering photos with Photoshop. • Tech, Digital Media and Gaming Camp (ages 10 to 17) – Campers complete hands-on projects and learn exciting new skills in Web design, gaming, digital photography, graphics, video production, programming, robotics and general computing.
Giant Campus summer camps span on-site locations across the country. They are designed to inspire kids and teens with technology while engaging them in 21st century skills such as creativity, problem solving, communication and collaboration.
