Faculty

Cherith Imes - Director of Faculty

Ms. Imes holds a Bachelor of Science in business from Brigham Young University, Hawaii and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Adams State College, Colorado. She has worked for Giant Campus since 2008. Before moving into the role of Director of Faculty at Giant Campus, Cherith was a business and technology teacher in both traditional and online settings, certified in the State of Colorado. In her free time, she enjoys travel, hiking, biking, and snow skiing.

Shanna Barker - Virtual Instructor

Ms. Barker received a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Secondary Education from Southern Utah University. She taught in a private school before coming to work for E2020 in 2011 where she teaches anything from Psychology to World History. Ms. Barker is licensed to teach Social Studies in the states of Utah and South Carolina as well as Social Science in the state of Missouri. In her free time she enjoys traveling, reading and dancing. One of her life goals is to write historical fiction for young adults.

Karen Black - Virtual Instructor

Mrs. Black earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from Brigham Young University. She has been working at Education2020 since her graduation in 2012. She is certified in the state of Utah with a level 4 math endorsement. Though this is her first full-time position, she has over five years of experience with teaching and tutoring math students. When she’s not teaching math, she enjoys reading novels, dancing with her husband, watching Doctor Who, playing Castleville, and cooking.

John L. Carter - Virtual Instructor

Mr. Carter received a Bachelor of Science in Biology Education from Utah Valley University. He has worked as a substitute teacher since graduating and joined the E2020 team in 2012. He is certified in the state of Utah, with an endorsement in Biology. When he is not teaching, he enjoys hiking, photography, rooting for Real Salt Lake, and most of all spending time with his family.

Denise Cupps - Virtual Instructor

Ms. Cupps attended Southern Utah University for her undergraduate degree in Dance, French and Education. She received her Master’s Degree from New York University in French Language and Civilization in 2006. Ms. Cupps has been teaching for nine years in New York, Ohio, and Utah. She holds state certifications in Ohio, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Arizona. In her spare time she trains for triathlons and teaches group fitness classes at Lifetime Fitness. She plans to compete in her first Ironman in 2013.

Loretta Diamond - Virtual Instructor

Ms. Diamond received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and TESOL and Secondary Education from Brigham Young University. She has taught Spanish in Junior High and Adult Education and English as a Second Language in Elementary, Secondary and Adult Education in traditional schools. This is her first experience in a virtual school. She is licensed in the state of Utah to teach Spanish and ESL. In her spare time, she enjoys long walks with her family and friends, reading, playing the piano, singing, watching Dancing with the Stars, and checking up on friends on Facebook.

Mary Felix - Virtual Instructor

Ms. Felix earned her Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics and her Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Portland. She has taught physical science in a hands-on manner as an outdoor educator and has experience teaching both math and science in Title 1 schools. Mary is licensed to teach in Oregon with the following endorsements: Advanced Math, Physics, and Middle Level Physical Science. When she is not teaching, she enjoys reading a good book, tinkering with her computer and other electronic devices, and experimenting in amateur astronomy.

Chris Frisbie - Virtual Instructor

Mr. Frisbie holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Secondary Education, a Master of Science in Health Education and is completing a second Master’s degree in eLearning Design and Implementation. He has taught social studies and technology since 2001 in both traditional and virtual schools. He holds state certifications in Washington, Colorado, Utah, and Virginia. In his spare time, he enjoys photography and playing guitar.

Kathey Hatfield - Virtual Instructor

Ms. Hatfield earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Education and her Master of Arts in Education from Central Washington University. In addition, Kathey earned a Washington administrator’s license in 2011. She has taught Business and Marketing since 1997 and has been involved in both FBLA and DECA. She’s also served as an adjunct instructor at Central Washington University and Yakima Valley Community College. She holds state certifications in Washington and Utah. In her free time, she enjoys browsing bookstores and trying new recipes.

Jeanette Hawkinson - Virtual Instructor

Ms. Hawkinson received a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Viterbo University and a Master of Science in Education Technology from Full Sail University. She has been teaching for Giant Campus since 2009 and has taught in both online and “brick and mortar” schools since 2005. She holds state certifications from Wisconsin, Washington, Utah, Virginia, and Minnesota. When she’s not teaching, Ms. Hawkinson coaches junior ice hockey teams.

Heidi Jones - Virtual Instructor

Mrs. Jones received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Brigham Young University and a Master of Arts in English from Weber State University. She is certified to teach Secondary English in Utah. She has taught high school and junior high, as well as night classes for adults and college students at Weber State University. The subjects she has taught include ESL, English, Yearbook, and Journalism. She enjoys music and plays the cello and piano whenever she has the spare time, and she loves cuddling with her baby boy and enjoying comedy talk shows with her husband.

Jeanine Parson - Virtual Instructor

Ms. Parson earned her Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Southern Utah University. She has taught business and technology courses since 2004 in both traditional and online classrooms. She earned her teaching license in 2004 and became involved in FBLA taking students to the national competition in 2007 and 2009. She holds state certifications in Utah, Washington, and Arizona. In her free time, she enjoys exercising, connecting with friends, hiking, shopping, being with family, and eating out.

Aubrey Pasant - Virtual Instructor

Ms. Pasant earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Journalism from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She earned her School Librarian license in 2006. She has taught in both traditional and online classrooms since 2002 and began working for Giant Campus in 2008. Ms. Pasant holds state certifications in Texas and Washington. When she is not teaching, she enjoys photography, running, reading, keeping up with the latest in technology, and cheering for the Baylor Bears.

Maria Peterson - Virtual Instructor

Ms. Peterson received a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry Education from Brigham Young University with minors in Geology and Latin Teaching. She is certified in Utah to teach Chemistry, Physical Science, Middle-Level Science, Geology, and Latin. Her teaching background includes experience in community college, residential treatment center, public, and charter school settings. She lived in Germany for ten years and likes to visit interesting places. In her free time Ms. Peterson likes to read and collect minerals.
